Dr. Azhar Iqbal is a distinguished academician, clinician, and researcher serving as Associate Professor and Consultant in the Department of Restorative Dentistry at Jouf University, Saudi Arabia. With over two decades of clinical and academic experience, he brings exceptional expertise in restorative dentistry, endodontics, and dental education.
Dr. Iqbal holds an impressive portfolio of international qualifications, including Fellowship of the Faculty of Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FDS RCS), Fellowship of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (FCPS), and Fellowship of the International College of Dentists (FICD, USA). He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA, UK) and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Education from the University of Dundee, UK, with ongoing Master's and PhD studies in Medical Education.
As a classified Consultant in Restorative Dentistry recognized by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS), Dr. Iqbal serves as a Certified Trainer and Examiner for the Saudi Board Program. He holds the prestigious position of Designated Institutional Official (DIO) for the Saudi Board Program at Jouf University. He is also an Approved Examiner for MFDS RCS (Part 1 & 2) at the Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow, UK.
With 80 publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals indexed in ISI, Web of Science, and Scopus, Dr. Iqbal has made significant contributions to restorative dentistry, endodontics, cariology, and dental education. His research metrics include an h-index of 15 (Google Scholar) with over 1,000 citations, an h-index of 10 (Scopus), and a Research Interest Score of 649.6. He has successfully completed six university-funded research grants and is currently leading multiple research projects.
Research Interests are : BIS-GMA free dental composites, Caries assessment using CAMBRA protocols, Advanced endodontic classification systems, CBCT comparative evaluation studies, Technology-enhanced learning, Workplace-based assessment methods, Entrusted Professional Activities in health professions education, Assessment tool development and validation
Dr. Iqbal actively serves as a reviewer for several prestigious journals, including BMC Oral Health, International Journal of Dental Hygiene, Risk Management and Healthcare Policy, and European Journal of Endodontics. He is also an Advisory Board Member for the Journal of STEAM.
He is an active member of numerous professional bodies, including the Academy of Dental Educators Europe, Academy of Medical Educators (UK), International Association of Dental Research, Saudi Society of Medical Education, and the Pakistan Association of Operative Dentistry & Endodontics.
Dr. Iqbal has received multiple distinguished faculty awards (2020-2023) and the Excellence Research Award (2022-2023) from Jouf University, recognizing his outstanding contributions to research and education.
